What to Do at Party Cove on Lake Austin (2026 Guide)
Party Cove is the spot on Lake Austin where boats anchor side by side, music plays, and everyone ends up in the water. It's only a short cruise from the Loop 360 Boat Ramp under the Pennybacker Bridge, which is why it's the first stop on many of our trips. Here's how to make the most of it.
What is Party Cove?
Party Cove is a sheltered stretch of Lake Austin where boats gather and anchor on warm days. There's no admission, no bar and no schedule. It's simply where Austin goes to float, swim and socialize on the water. On summer weekends it fills with pontoons and party boats; on weekdays it can feel almost private.
Things to do at Party Cove
Float on a lily pad. Every Longhorn Leisure boat comes with a lily pad, the giant foam mat you see in all the photos. Roll it out, climb on, and relax.
Swim. Your captain anchors in a good spot and you can jump in from the swim ladder. Life jackets are on board for every age.
Play your own music. Our boats have a Bluetooth speaker, so you control the playlist.
Meet other boats. Party Cove is social. Groups wave, toss a ball, and chat across the water.
Ride the slides. On our double decker party boat, the two waterslides off the top deck are the main event.
Take the group photo. Pennybacker Bridge and the limestone cliffs nearby make one of the best backdrops in Austin.
When to go
Summer weekends (late morning to late afternoon) are the busiest and most social.
Weekdays are calmer, cheaper and great for families or anyone who wants room to spread out.
Late afternoon gives softer light for photos, and you can roll straight into sunset.
Plan for at least 3 hours. That leaves time to cruise past the lakefront mansions, spend a solid stretch anchored at the cove, and come back without rushing. Groups who also want a restaurant stop usually book 4 hours.
What to bring
Drinks in cans or plastic (BYOB is fine, but no glass and no red wine)
Easy snacks such as sandwiches, fruit, chips or popcorn
Sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and towels
Plenty of water
You don't need to bring a cooler, speaker, shade, life jackets or a float. They're all on the boat.
How to get to Party Cove
The easiest way is a captained boat from the Loop 360 Boat Ramp. Your captain handles the driving, anchoring and safety, and you handle the fun. Parking at the ramp is limited, so we recommend Uber or Lyft.
Party Cove Pontoon: up to 15 guests, from $294 plus tax and tip
Double Decker with two slides: up to 24 guests and two waterslides, from $585 plus tax and tip
