What to Bring on a Lake Austin Boat Rental (and What to Leave at Home)
Packing for a boat day is easy when you know what's already on board. Here's our list for a captained Lake Austin boat rental.
Already on the boat
Licensed captain
Large cooler
Bluetooth speaker
Shade cover
Lily pad float
Life jackets for all ages
First aid kit
Bring these
Drinks: BYOB is welcome in cans or plastic bottles.
Ice: to fill the cooler.
Snacks: sandwiches, fruit, chips, popcorn or anything easy to eat.
Water: more than you think you'll need, especially in summer.
Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.
Towels and swimsuits: you'll want to swim at Party Cove.
Phone in a waterproof pouch: for photos and your playlist.
Tip for your captain: card or cash.
Leave these at home
Glass bottles or containers
Red wine
Anything you'd be upset to lose in the lake
Getting there
Every trip leaves from the Loop 360 Boat Ramp under the Pennybacker Bridge. Parking is limited and the police regularly ticket illegal parking, so take an Uber or Lyft.
Weather
Trips run rain or shine, and light rain is part of the fun. If lightning or other unsafe weather moves in, your captain pauses or ends the trip, and you get a full refund (or a refund for unused time if the trip had already started).
