Kids' Birthday Party on a Boat: A Lake Austin Party Parents Love

Looking for a kids' birthday party idea that isn't another trampoline park? A private boat party on Lake Austin is something kids talk about for years, and parents love it because the captain handles the driving and the boat comes with everything you need.

Why a boat birthday party works

  • It's private. The whole boat is yours, so no sharing with strangers.

  • There's a licensed captain. No parent has to drive the boat.

  • The fun is built in. Swimming, a giant lily pad float and (on the double decker) two waterslides.

  • Easy setup. Shade, a cooler, a Bluetooth speaker and life jackets for every age are already on board.

Choose your boat

  • Party Cove Pontoon: up to 15 guests, perfect for a small group of kids plus a few parents. From $294 plus tax and tip. See the pontoon.

  • Double Decker with two slides: up to 24 guests, the ultimate birthday boat. From $585 plus tax and tip. See the double decker.

Remember to count adults in your headcount.

Safety first

  • Life jackets: Texas law requires children under 13 to wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket while a boat under 26 feet is underway. We have life jackets on board for all ages, and we recommend kids wear one in the water too.

  • Adults in the water: make sure an adult is swimming with the kids whenever they're in the lake.

  • Sun: bring sunscreen and hats; the Texas sun is strong even under the shade cover.

  • Weather: trips run rain or shine. If your captain decides conditions are unsafe, such as lightning, you get a full refund.

Party plan for a 3-hour trip

  • First 30 minutes: board at the Loop 360 Boat Ramp, safety briefing, and cruise under the Pennybacker Bridge.

  • Next 90 minutes: anchor in a calm cove to swim, float on the lily pad and ride the slides.

  • Cake time: cupcakes are easier than a big cake on a boat.

  • Last 30 minutes: a slow cruise past the lakefront mansions and Little Venice, then back to the ramp.

What to bring

  • Cupcakes or a small cake, plates and napkins

  • Juice boxes, water and easy snacks (no glass on board)

  • Sunscreen, towels and a change of clothes

  • Goggles and swim diapers for little ones

  • Decorations that won't blow away: think balloons tied down tight, or skip them

  • The birthday kid's favorite playlist

Good times to book

  • Weekday mornings are the calmest and least crowded on the lake.

  • Weekends book up fast in summer, so reserve early.
